PAI – COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

The Pilates Academy International and Mobile Fitness and Pilates Studio upholds course requirements commensurate with other Pilates teachers training programs around the world. In the chart below, prospective students will find the hours required of them both in the classroom and out, as observation, personal practice and practice teaching are all necessary components of becoming a successful Pilates instructor.
Class Hours, Observation Hours, Practice Teaching Hours and Personal Study Hours

Class Hours:
A PAI manual will be provided for every course. Students should dress in exercise clothing and wear socks, as they will be performing the exercises as they learn them. There will be breaks during course hours.

Observation Hours:
The student watches a class, private session, or videos. Taking class is not considered observation.

Practice Teaching:
The student practices teaching the exercises on another person. PAI students may practice at Mobile Fitness and Pilates for free for 3 months after the last day of the course, bringing in one practice body total. Practice hours MUST be during OFF CLASS SCHEDULED HOURS. Students must book times at the front desk – short notice cancellations may occur due to private bookings or courses.

Personal Study Hours:
The student studies the exercises on their own, studying design, breath patterns and muscles involved. Taking class can be considered as personal study hours.
These suggested hours are to be logged and completed before taking the certification test. The logs are turned in on the day of the test. Full hours will be given out during training time.

PAI has a crossover program available for students who have already begun their studies with another program and wish to train with Pilates Academy International. Students must contact the New York location for crossover information.
For more information, please email mfandpilates@gmail.com

CANCELLATION AND TRANSFER POLICY:

If a student chooses to withdraw from training outside of two weeks prior to the start date, the course cost will be returned to the student with the exception of the $125 non-refundable deposit and $25 processing fee. If the student chooses to withdraw from training within the two weeks prior to the start date or after the course begins, no refunds will be given but the payment is transferable.

Mobile Fitness and Pilates and PAI holds the right to cancel a course with 2-week notice. In the event of a cancellation, all payments will be returned.

CERTIFICATION EXAMS AND FEES:

The Pilates Academy International, as a registered school of the PMA, has the ability to issue an assessment-based certificate based on the practical and written exams administered. Certificates are issued upon successful completion and assessment of each component of the Pilates repertoire, on each piece of equipment. The Pilates Method Alliance is a fully accredited certification organization for Pilates, INDEPENDENT of any education program. Students may only sit for the PMA exam after successful completion of ALL components of a Pilates Teacher Training program, including all programs on advanced curricula as well as post-rehabilitation protocols. The benefit of acquiring assessment-based certificates as Pilates instructors proceed to full certification are the following: ability to start teaching immediately once the certificate is issued, ability to attain liability insurance upon proving proof of the certificate and ability to sit for the full PMA certification exam once ALL certificates have been acquired.

The student has one year from the last day of each course to take the certification exam. If the student takes longer than a year, a review hour must be scheduled with Fiona Hermanutz at the rate of $80/hr. This hour serves to ensure the student is on track with studying and the information hasn’t been lost throughout the year.
Exams for every All-Populations l course includes a written and practical portion, All Populations ll includes only a Practical. A score of at least 70% is required to pass the written. The practical is graded as pass/fail.

-
You must take your exam within 1 year of completing your last course, but six months is recommended.
-
Both the written and practical exams can be conducted at Mobile Fitness and Pilates Studio or online with the instructor. The exam must be scheduled through that facility. The written and practical do not need to be conducted the same day.

PRACTICAL EXAM GUIDELINES:
Students will be given the format of the practical exam during the course, and thus will be familiar with what is expected during the practical exam. The goal of the practical exam is to test BOTH exercise choice (programming) AND the way the exercises are taught, including cueing, correcting, modifications, and “what to watch out for”. While for the most part, the student will be choosing the exercises, the Teacher Trainer may ask the student to teach a specific exercise or series of exercises. Students will be working one on one with a Teacher Trainer during the exam. There will be no “body”.

Be VERY familiar with the following:

-
Dominant spinal motion in each exercise
-
Prime mobilizers in each exercise
-
Prime stabilizers in each exercise
-
Proper execution of each exercise
-
Modifications of each exercise
-
What to watch out for in each exercise
Our goal is for you to PASS… and with flying colors, at that!
